Stitchy Saturdays

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

Out now:
Design: Who Am I Kidding?
Size: 93w x 67h
A cute little subversive sampler proclaiming “I will not be naughty!” We all know that just can’t be done, right? Stitch all in a single colour, or choose half a dozen soft shades to tone with your decor.

Out 30th January
Design: Night Circus Diagonal Bookmark
Size: 70w x 70w (this design is stitched diagonally on the fabric)
This was inspired by the novel The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, and designed as a gift for my Mam to go with a hardback copy of the book. Charted for a single colour, but as you can see, you can stitch different areas in whatever colours you choose for a different effect.

For Valentine’s Day (coming in the next few weeks)
Design: Love Me Do
Size: 66w x 44h
Are you a fan of The Beatles? Or are you just a romantic? Stitch this simple little phrase for your loved one in whatever colour will best appeal.

Design: All You Need Is Love
Size: 68w x 58h
Second in the song titles trio, and another Beatles track.

Design: Love Me Tender
Size: 74w x 44h
If Elvis is more your style, then the third in my song titles trio is the one for you!

Design: Assisi Valentine Heart
Size: 39w x 34h
Did you forget it’s almost Valentine’s Day? Then this last-minute quick stitch will fit the bill for a card or gift you can make the night before and still make your loved one feel special.

Quite a lot to post about this week, so I’ll just bang straight on with it!

Finished stitching:
I finally stitching the Quaker Alphabet Sampler which will be going into the lid of one of my sewing boxes. It’s stitched on sand-coloured 28-count Quaker cloth in Threadworx 1089 which is a variegated floss of deep red. I’ve never mounted stitching in a box lid, so I hope it all works out well and I don’t ruin the piece in the attempt!

New designs:
Bite Me Miniature Subversive Sampler
Released 17th October
This quick-stitch sampler is charted for just two colours – red and black – but could just as easily be stitched in monochrome (perhaps red on black, or black on red would look rather striking!). Perfect for displaying over Halloween or, if you’re a bit subversive like me, all year round!

Elizabeth and Darcy
Released 24th October
For all Jane-ites and fans of Pride and Prejudice, this pretty design in the style of a wedding sampler commemorates one of the best-loved love affairs of classic literature along with the name of Darcy’s famous home and the year the novel was first published.

Charity Stitching
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! I have seven freebie designs for your own fundraising efforts or just for little gifts to raise awareness, but there is also the What Cancer Cannot Do Charity Blackwork Sampler chart which is available from my Folksy Store, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK. I’ve also listed some stitched goodies for sale at the store and again, all proceeds are going to charity. Even if you’re not a stitcher, you can visit my Just Giving page and donate a small amount f you wish.

If you’re stitching my Rules For Life sampler (available from my Folksy store HERE), you might like to join the Facebook stitch-along group. There are quite a few people stitching it right now in so many different ways – the range of fabrics and flosses is stunning.

Stitchy Saturdays – More Designs and Some Charity Stitching

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

New Designs:
Design: Vampires Suck
Size: 47w x 47h
Out 3rd October
This mini subversive sampler is perfect for Halloween! Charted for a simple and classy red and black colour scheme, it’s a quick and easy gift for a vampire fan! I reckon this would look great in a coaster or hanging in a red or black hoop frame with a bit of matching ribbon.

Design: Vampires Suck Sampler
Size: 120w x 70h
Out 7th October
A lacy Gothic sampler for vampire fans everywhere. Available from my Folksy Store now.

Design: Vampires Should Not Sparkle
Size: 105w x 87h
Out 10th October
Here’s one for all those who are sick to death of The Twilight Saga (or those who are fans but like a good laugh anyway). Classic black and red for simplicity and style.

Charity Stitching:
I’ve stitched a couple of items for sale to raise a little money for Cancer Research UK as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month. They’re available now from my Folksy Store.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
Please see my For Charity page over at Kincavel Krosses for links to the free charts for charity stitching, and also the link to my Folksy Store for the What Cancer Cannot Do Charity Blackwork Chart. I’ll be posting photos of stitched items there if anyone sends me any!

Stitchy Saturdays – Serendipity…

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

This week I had a bit of serendipitous stitching. I took Xander to a soft play centre and sat down to do a little stitching while he played – it’s something I regularly do when we’re not meeting friends, or until our friends arrive as we’re invariably early. One of the ladies who works at the centre approached me and said that she’d often seen me stitching and wondered if I took orders.

Well, I always have a few of my cards on me so I handed one over and we chatted a while. It seems she started a project years ago for her grandchildren but never finished it as her eyes aren’t as good as they once were and she would like a tag stitched for each of her nine grandchildren to complete the piece. As Im’ a regular customer there, she’ll bring in the piece as it is to show me so we can discuss what she needs.

It’s a good thing she’s in no hurry because I couldn’t possibly take on another stitching commission till at least the new year!

New Designs:
Design: Alphabet Band Sampler
Size: 90w x 137h
This traditional-style sampler was released on Monday 19th September. As you can see, it’s charted for the traditional red, but could be stitched in any colour to compliment your home decor. I think it would look gorgeous in a variegated floss, or you could choose different colours for each section for a completely different look. Or how about different shades of the same colour for a tone on tone look? Or two contrasting colours? It’s up to you!

Design: Vampire Bookmark Duo
Size: 99w x 23h each
This fang-tastic pair of bookmarks will be released on Monday 26th September. They’re quick, versatile pieces that could be stitched in any colour combination and finished in many different ways. As you can see, although the designs are very similar, they look completely different depending on the choices you make.

I’ve been busily beavering away, creating new designs – it seems I’ve been struck by inspiration a lot lately and just can’t stop!

First off,  I went bookmark crazy! There are loads to choose from for those who love both books and stitching:

Then there are a couple of square designs perfect for biscornu, and a small ATC design which would also work well for a card:

Then I returned to my love of samplers:

And I have more lined up to publish over the coming weeks too including:

  • Mini Quaker Alphabet Sampler
  • Do Not Disturb Subversive Sampler
  • Bird and Bloom Bookmark
  • Bird and Bloom Alphabet Sampler
  • Póg mo thóin Subversive Band Sampler (“Kiss my @rse”)

Take a look at the slideshow below for a peek at how they look and click on the links to be taken directly to the designs – they’re all available FREE at my Kincavel Krosses blog. I hope you like them!

Stitchy Saturdays – Crazy January Challenge Update

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

Here we are – my first Crazy January Challenge Update! The two bookmarks are completely finished, but the two samplers still need finishing – the stitching is all done, but I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do with them. I think I might hang the 2011 Band Sampler on a bell-pull hanger and perhaps make the Oh, Bugger Subversive Sampler into a little pomander cushion…
