Stitchy Saturdays – Birthday ATCs

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

I’m a member of a couple of Facebook groups who exchange cross stitched ATCs each month on specific themes, but who also send each other little birthday ATCs. There are so many members there now I knew I’d never be able to stitch a birthday ATC for every member’s birthday, or I’d permanently be stitching ATCs and never get anything else done at all. The answer, I decided, was to choose one or two months each year and then rotate the months till I’d covered everyone.

I decided that June would be a good month to start, so here are all the ATCs I sent out for people’s birthdays during this month:

With all those out the way, I can now choose another month. I think if I go with December, it will give me enough time to stitch the mall, and then I can move on to May and November next year…

Stitchy Saturdays Extra…

As I was asked to design something for our February ATC exchange at the Cross Stitch ATCs Facebook group, I thought I’d showcase all the wonderful variations made by everyone who stitched them. There were two designs, one blackwork and one cross stitch, both designed so that they could be stitched on 14-count aida (or a higher count fabric) and still fit on a card the required size (2.5 inches x 3.5 inches). Take a look – I think you’ll be impressed by everyone’s creative flair!

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: ABC 123 ATC Blackwork
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Liz Churchyard, NSW, Australia
Information: Stitched on white 13-count aida in miscellaneous burgundy thread. Design from Kincavel Krosses.

I was very flatteringly asked to design a chart for everyone in the exchange to stitch – the style and theme were my own choice, so I thought I’d like to do something that looked like a miniature sampler. I designed this blackwork one and a cross stitch one too, so everyone would have a choice of two to stitch.

Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Me!
Information: Stitched on white 13-count aida in Dragon Floss 55 (Moss Amber). and finished with cream pearl seed beads Design from Kincavel Krosses.

The second theme was Stitcher’s Keepers, so I get to keep this one for myself. This was the other choice of the two designs I charted.

Theme: Valentine
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Lynn Stevens, Surrey, UK
Information: Stitched on white 22-count evenweave in Needle Necessities Floss in 1481 (Mystique).

I killed two birds with one stone with this design from The Stitcherhood, as it was the Monthly Challenge stitch at the Needlecraft Haven forum. It was such a quick stitch that I finished it in one evening!

I’ve been busily beavering away, creating new designs – it seems I’ve been struck by inspiration a lot lately and just can’t stop!

First off,  I went bookmark crazy! There are loads to choose from for those who love both books and stitching:

Then there are a couple of square designs perfect for biscornu, and a small ATC design which would also work well for a card:

Then I returned to my love of samplers:

And I have more lined up to publish over the coming weeks too including:

  • Mini Quaker Alphabet Sampler
  • Do Not Disturb Subversive Sampler
  • Bird and Bloom Bookmark
  • Bird and Bloom Alphabet Sampler
  • Póg mo thóin Subversive Band Sampler (“Kiss my @rse”)

Take a look at the slideshow below for a peek at how they look and click on the links to be taken directly to the designs – they’re all available FREE at my Kincavel Krosses blog. I hope you like them!

Stitchy Saturday – October ATCs

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

I know it’s half-way through November now, but these are the ATCs I sent and received through various exchanges in October.

Group: Addicted to Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Stitcher’s Choice
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Kerrie Rose, Norwich, UK
Information: As I got to stitch whatever I fancied this time round, I thought I’d go for an autumnal theme and designed this miniature seasonal sampler. It’s stitched in DMC 111 variegated floss (one of my favourites) on white 22-count Janina. The design is available for free from my Kincavel Krosses blog HERE.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Letter A
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Pamela Spatty, Springfield, MO, USA
Information: I used part of the motif from my Autumn ATC, split it apart and placed the lower-case letter “A” in the centre. The motif is stitched in green variegated floss and the letter is stitched in scented DMC (apple-scented, as “A” is for apple!). I used a floral cardstock as the colours and shapes complemented the stitched patch, cut the edges with fancy-blade scissors, used gold chain edging down the sides, then added three more letter A’s along the bottom.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: The Spooks!
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Natascha Busby, Shropshire, UK
Information: This cute little ghost was gleaned from the pages of Donna Kooler’s 555 Fabulous Cross Stitch Patterns. I stitched him in glow-in-the-dark DMC, edging him in pale blue, on black aida. I covered the plain cardstock with handmade orange paper that had a rough texture and added metallic-shimmer letters down the left-hand side spelling “Boo”.

Group: Addicted to Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Stitcher’s Choice
Stitched by: Lynn Stevens, London, UK
Sent to: Me!
Information: Lynn chose a Halloween theme for her stitcher’s choice and sent me this creepy little spider (I’m terrified of them!) dangling from his web. His eyes are tiny orange seed beads. The card is very dark brown (which complements the orange beautifully) and I love the little pumpkin and skull adornments which stand out from the card.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Letter A
Stitched by: Annette Neeley, Ogden, Utah, USA
Sent to: Me!
Information: This gorgeous medieval-style letter A is stitched in an array of stunning colours – the photo really doesn’t do it justice! The rose-pink card has beautiful swirling fleur-de-lis-type designs which is continued with the little fleur-de-lis charm.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: The Spooks!
Stitched by: Anna Itsma
Sent to: Me!
Information: I love this cute little spook carrying a lantern and edged in silver. He’s stitched on black aida and that little charm is a beautiful silver pumpkin.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Halloween
Stitched by: Laura Borst, Whitburn, UK
Sent to: Me!
Information: Laura must have been ejoying stitching for Halloween, because she sent me this adorable Mummy ATC as a freebie. I love the star-studded holographic card he’s on too!

ATCs For September

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Flower Power
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Lorraine Grimshaw, Swansea, Wales
Information: The main part of this Assisi rose design is stitched in a variegated floss, but the backstitching and border are stitched in rose-scented DMC (the fabric is white 18-count aida). The backing card has a pale blue floral design and I cut the edges with fancy-blade scissors for the scalloped effect. Finally, I finished the ATC with some rose-coloured ribbon and pearls.

The design is a freebie from Needlework Tips and Techniques.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Letter B
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Lynn Stevens, Surrey, UK
Information: I liked the simplicity of this art nouveau letter with the highly stylised rose. It also gave me another chance to stitch with my rose-scented DMC! The letter itself, and the backstitching on the rose, is in Belle Soie silk – the design is stitched on white 14-count perforated paper. The backing card is the same pale blue floral card I used for the Flower Power ATC and cut the edges with the same fancy-edged scissors, but turned the other way for a different finish. Finally, I added three glittery butterfly embellishments which are raised from the card by using 3D sticky foam for a bit of added depth.

The design is from the December 2009 issue of CrossStitcher Magazine – Art Nouveau ABC by Diane Machin. It was the featured Alphabet of the Month.

Group: Addicted to Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Pigs
Stitched by: Me!
Sent to: Anna Itsma, Netherlands
Information: This is my first ATC for exchange with this group and I adore pigs, so I wanted to stitch something sweet. Pigs often get a bad rep for being stinky and dirty, so This Little Piggy is pristinely clean and sweetly scented as I once more used my rose-scented DMC on white 18-count aida. I covered the plain white backing card with some pretty pink hand-made paper and added a flower cut from some wrapping paper in the bottom left corner. Next I cut the edges with wavy-edged scissors and finished it all off by adding some tiny pink crystal embellishments (the top one is a tiny heart).

The design is part of a larger farmyard sampler (Sheep, Pig and More) from Cross Stitchers Club. I added the text myself.

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Flower Power
Stitched by: Rachel Bailey, Wales, UK
Sent to: Me!
Information: This very clever and effective Flower Power ATC was designed by Rachel especially for this exchange. I love how the lettering is incorporated into the centre of the flower – ingenious! The colours are so cheery and vibrant – they really pop!

Group: Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Letter B
Stitched by: Emma Rowlett, Telford, UK
Sent to: Me!
Information: This cute snake looped through the letter is just so sweet! I love how Emma carried the theme off the fabric with the stickers spelling “hisss”, and the wavy-edged card – so effective.

Group: Addicted to Cross Stitch ATCs
Theme: Pigs
Stitched by: Karen Beaton, Melton, Australia
Sent to: Me!
Information: I adore this rainy day pig splashing in the puddles. And those rainbow-coloured raindrops are so gorgeous and sparkly. Just adorable through and through!
