Category Archives: Crazy January Challenge 2011

I’ve been getting notifications that people are subscribing to Diary of a Domestic Goddess, but as I mentioned in my previous post, I’m no longer using this blog. Not using it at all. There won’t be any more posts here, so there’s no point in subscribing.

Instead, why not pop along to my NEW blog, where I AM posting. Pretty much daily. Honestly, it’s a great blog, you should go visit it. And maybe subscribe to THAT one instead. You can find it here:

Stitchy Saturdays – Crazy January Challenge Update

Each Saturday, I will feature either something I’m currently stitching, something I’ve just finished stitching, or something I’ve just designed. I hope you’ll all join me in displaying some of your own work and leaving a link to your post in the comments below.

Here we are – my first Crazy January Challenge Update! The two bookmarks are completely finished, but the two samplers still need finishing – the stitching is all done, but I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do with them. I think I might hang the 2011 Band Sampler on a bell-pull hanger and perhaps make the Oh, Bugger Subversive Sampler into a little pomander cushion…

Project #15: Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder Sampler by Kincavel Krosses
Info: white 14-count aida; DMC 4210

This is another last minute substitution. I originally listed the Bibliophile Blackwork Bookmark, but I really just didn’t fancy stitching a blackwork piece tonight and switched to this little sampler instead. I love the variations in the colour of this floss. They’re quite subtle but, I think, effective, and I like how this looks so far.

So, that’s all fifteen projects started. Now all I have to do is finish them all by the end of the year! I’ll be giving updates on my progress the first Saturday of each month as part of my Stitchy Saturdays, but I may occasionally pop up a post ni between those if I’ve managed to do a fair bit on a project, so I hope you’ll keep visiting!

I’ve meant to stitch this bookmark ever since I first designed it, but it’s taken this challenge for me to get round to actually picking up a needle and making a start on it! I don’t think it will take very long to stitch, but I think it will look great when it’s finished.

Anyone who knows me, even a little, knows how much I adore subversive samplers. Even so, this wasn’t on my original list and I switched to this design at the last moment (I was originally going to stitch my Temptation quote). I’m glad I did, because I think I’m going to have a lot of fun stitching it! I love the colour combination and the Dinky Dyes silk (which I’m stitching two over two) is gorgeous to work with – I just love the feeling of silk between my fingers. I managed to get quite a bit stitched, so I don’t think this one will take very long to complete once I get back to it.

Project #12: Espresso Yourself by Kincavel Krosses
Info: White 18-count aida; Belle Soie silk in Moss; Dinky Dyes silk in 33 Desert Sands

I was originally going to use plain brown and cream, but when I got my silks grab bag from Polstitches, I immediately attached these two silks to this project, replacing the cream with the gorgeous orange shades to add a bit of pizzazz (in much the same way as a shot of espresso does – LOL!) to the project. I also have some beautiful seed beads which I think will bring some gorgeous depth to this sampler. The silks are just wonderful to work with – I love how they feel as I stroke them – I heartily recommend picking some up if you fancy giving your stitching a bit of added luxury!

Project #11: Thanks a Latte by Kincavel Krosses
Info: 32-count Jobelan in Shades of Narcissus by Polstitches; DMC 898, 434, 3064, 842 & 3770

Another quick start today – both the little latte glasses stitched and the word “latte”. Only a small start, but a start none-the-less. I didn’t get a chance to start on the steam or finish the rest of the phrase – next time, though!

Project #10: Tea For 2 by Kincavel Krosses
Info: Pastel blue 16-count aida; Carrie’s Creation Cornflower; DMC 334 & DMC Blanc

Just the lettering stitched on this, as I had a terrible headache which radically cut my stitching time, but Xander sat on my knee and pulled the needle through for some of the first stage of this project.

Project #9: Hot Chocolate – Liquid Heaven by Kincavel Krosses
Info: 22-count ivory aida; Carrie’s Creation threads in Hot Chocolate and Saffron

I don’t seem to be able to grab much time to stitch at the moment, but I’m determined to get at least a few stitches in place for all fifteen projects! I haven’t chosen the third colour for this project yet (I need a cream colour), but when I realised I had a floss actually called Hot Chocolate, I knew it was destined for this sampler. I’m stitching one over one so it will be a very small piece, but I think it will look rather rich when it’s all done…

Project #8: Quoth the raven… by Kincavel Krosses
Info: white 14-count aida; DMC 310

Just a quick stitching session this evening, but I managed to stitch the entire raven whilst watching a movie tonight. The raven is stitched in four strands for dense coverage, and I’m toying with the idea of the lettering in three strands and the lacy border in just two strands, to give different textures and coverage for more interest.
