Day 11 – The Nightmare Before Christmas

The penultimate day and the penultimate film! It’s Christmas Eve, so what treat do I have in store for you all today?

Well, how about the dark imaginings of Tim Burton? Jack Skellington is the Pumpkin King of Halloween, but he’s found out about Christmas Town and wants to hijack it for himself and fellow Halloween inhabitants, but he doesn’t quite understand the concept.

Yes, this is The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – a stop-motion animation extravaganza with the music of Danny Elfman (who actually provides the singing voice for Jack – Chris Sarandon is the speaking voice). It’s utterly enchanting, despite the darker undercurrents. Apparently it was originally to be a Disney release, but they decided late in the game that it was just too dark for their tastes. As it is, it suits mine perfectly!

What’s this? It’s the glorious trailer!
