Booking through Thursday – First Editions

Hosted by Booking Through Thursday

How about First Editions? Are they something special? Or “just another book” to you?

—————————————————————————————————-
It’s nice to have first editions, and I do have a few, but it’s not something that’s essential to me. I’m happy just to have the books I love, preferably as they are published, but it doesn’t matter to me if they are not firsts.

That said, some of my most prized books are signed first editions – mostly Terry Pratchett hardbacks.

  1. See…signed books are totally different, for me. I think those are the ones where I’ve met the author and have a huge emotional tie. First editions…meh.

    • I’m the same – the signed books are the ones I care more about than the 1st editions. It just so happens that some of my signed books are first editions because the author signed the new books when they were released and I stood in line (or someone else did for me, if it was a gift). Their “1st edition” status doesn’t make them any more imporant to me. 🙂

  2. Interesting question, don’t you think? I personally am an avid reader, not a collector of books, although, I do own alot. Here’s my answer for this week’s Booking Through Thursday.

  3. My special first editions are signed too! If they weren’t they would go on the shelf with the other ones. I think book readers might be far more sentimental then everyone realises, which should make sense because reading plays on ones emotions to an extent.
