Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Just do the following:
1. Grab your current read
2. Open to a random page
3. Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
4. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
5. Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
The two drove in silence most of the way down Ninth Avenue, but when Heat turned onto Tenth and the streetwalkers started to show, Rook started singing a cold-cut jingle. “Oh, my hooker has a first name, it’s H-O-L-L-Y…”

Nikki almost remarked that the office could be used as a movie set with a backdrop like that, but it wasn’t the proper tone for this meeting. First she had to offer condolences for the loss of an author. Then she had to ask him for his dead author’s manuscript.

Naked Heat is the second novel spawned by the fantastic TV show, Castle, and is written as the novel of a fictional character, which is a clever hook for fans of the series – it even goes so far as to have Nathan Fillion (the actor who plays Richard Castle in the show) on the back cover where an author photograph would normally be. Even the acknowledgement and dedication are written in character.
Having recently read and enjoyed the first novel, Heat Wave, I was eager to get started on the sequel, and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s not brilliantly written by any standard, but it’s engaging and exciting enough for readers to overlook its faults and just enjoy it for what it is – a romp through New York with Beckett and Castle under the guise of the fictionalised versions of themselves (so, fictionalised versions of already-fictional characters – it’s fun, isn’t it?).
Fans of the show will love it. Fans of crime novels will enjoy it. I hope my teasers will hook one or two new folks and get them both watching the show and reading the books!
